Kept

Clare Hill

MEET THE ARTIST

Clare is a mostly self-taught painter despite being a graduate of the Savannah College of Art and Design. Color is at the root of what inspires her work.

For the artist, her paintings function as an exercise in control at a time when many aspects of this life feel refractory. She is motivated by a desire to capture and translate her perspective in a way that brings beauty into the world.

ABOUT THE WORK

Kept is a complete departure from her typical work. The work explores the intersection where the accumulation of objects meets the accumulation of Time. As we age and develop, the record of that development can be found in the objects we surround ourselves with. The objects of our lives tell a story of our life. Kept explores this idea. For the past few months, the artist has been in the process of clearing out her childhood home. Kept is a living record, a visual catalog, of some of the objects amassed by her parents as they constructed their lives, as they told their story to themselves and those they love.
