faces i wish i had when i had none

ABOUT THE WORK

The work features an excerpt from A Thousand Plateaus: Capitalism and Schizophrenia by the French philosopher Gilles Deleuze and the French psychoanalyst Félix Guattari. It is the second and final volume of their collaborative work Capitalism and Schizophrenia. We are not born with faces, they are constructed referents and loci of signification. At various moments in life, I lost my face. The quality of taste, the sensual mouth-feel of a new face fascinated me. The commercially constructed face of our consumer culture, stamped, branded, injected into my consciousness, sub-conscisouness, and unconsciousness manifests itself as socially coded desire for a specific face, or rather four specific faces.

“t.f.mutton” is a pseudonym used by Adam Graham. Mutton came-of-age in the Post-Apocalyptic Punk scene of Port Tobacco, Maryland, designing show posters for bands like I Think I Ate A Radioactive Donut, Even Roaches Didn’t Quite Make It, and The B-Turds. His unembellished style has won no awards or prizes, but has gotten him free drinks at local bars.
